With the weather warming up, more people are heading outside to enjoy the longer days and plentiful sunshine. Here are some fun things you should be doing this summer in the Carolinas:
- Take a Day Trip to the Mountains
The mountains are a short 2-hour drive from Charlotte. This is a great way to stay cool this summer! You can go to the quirky city of Asheville and explore the great beer and food options. Or, you can go to Boone – this small college town also has great food, but a plethora of outdoor activities – from hiking to whitewater rafting. School may not be in session at Appalachian State University, but this town still has a lot to offer visitors!
- Find a Large Body of Water and Just Relax
Going to a lake or the ocean are two of the oldest (and best) pastimes during the dog days of summer. Charlotte has two lakes all within an hour of the city – Lake Norman (which is north of the city) and Lake Wylie (which is a little further south). Both offer plentiful boating opportunities and public beaches for a restful Saturday. If you want a longer trip, the ocean is also close-by. More suitable for a vacation, you can be in the world-renowed beaches of Wilmington, Myrtle Beach or Charleston in under four hours.
- Enjoy a day at Carowinds!
Carowinds is the best place to spend a Saturday during the summer. Recent rides have made the amusement park even more appealing – with the second-tallest roller coaster (and first-fastest) in the world, Carowinds is at the top of its game these days! Carowinds had to receive special permission from the Federal Aviation Administration just to build the ride! And, this year, Carowinds is introducing four all-new rides – just in time for the 2017 season.
